Since 1988, the organisation of the National Commemoration on Dam Square in Amsterdam has been in the hands of the National Committee 4 and 5 May. Since this time, there has been a two-minute silence held at De Dam at the stroke of eight in the evening.
Since the start of the National Commemoration in 1988, the Royal Industrial Grand Club has opened its building to the National Committee staff and its guests every year. In the exhibition ’35 years of the National Commemoration on Dam Square’, you get a look behind the scenes of the organisation of this annual event.

Besides the behind-the-scenes look, the exhibition also focuses on the large-scale restoration of the National Monument which took place last year. Photographer Jelle Verhoeks photographed the restoration of the monument from March 2022 to February 2023.
During the tour of the 110-year-old Club, the National Remembrance lectern can be seen. We will walk through the rooms where the King and Queen interact with people laying wreaths, and you will have a good view of Dam Square and the National Monument.
