The programme will feature spoken word by schoolchildren from Amsterdam Zuidoost, upcoming talents and established artists! The final programme will be announced soon.
Following a successful pilot edition in 2022, the 4 and 5 May programme is now an annual event in Amsterdam Zuidoost. In 2023 it is dedicated to the national theme of ‘Living with War’.
With Anton de Komplein as our base of operations, we bring the Bijlmer into action, to take note of the underexposed shared history, and to continue to strive for a better, tolerant, safe and free society now and in the future.
The life and struggle of Anton de Kom, in Suriname and the Netherlands, continues to inspire many people. Anton de Kom: intellectual and activist. The man who fought in Suriname against the injustice of colonisation, and in the Netherlands against fascism; who mobilised and brought people together for a better world; who stood up against injustice, wherever he was in the world. Anton de Kom, and the square named after him, must become a starting point for inclusive remembrance and celebration. His struggles and ideals should continue to be honoured and celebrated.
