200 residents of the first section of Amsterdam’s Nieuwe Keizersgracht canal were murdered in World War II. Since May 2013, these victims have been commemorated with a memorial at the quayside.
The Schaduwkade lies opposite the Nieuwe Keizersgracht, on the same side as the Hermitage and the Diaconie. The Schaduwkade also represents all those other streets in the Netherlands where exactly the same thing happened door-to-door between 1940 and 1945.
Programme
A resident of New Keizersgracht will make a short speech. Clarinetist Michael Moore will provide a musical accompaniment to this year’s commemoration.
