Swammerdambuurt Names and Numbers
4 MAY 2023
Swammerdambuurt
Attention! This event has already passed.
Names and Numbers is a commemoration of residents from the Swammerdam neighbourhood.

On 4 May, we commemorate the Jewish residents who were deported from the Swammerdam neighbourhood during WWII. The streets involved are: Blasiusstraat 1 to 70, Swammerdamstraat, Ruyschstraat 1 to 52, Deymanstraat, Leeuwenhoekstraat, Eerste Boerhaavestraat, Mauritsstraat and Weesperzijde 1 to 38.

Anyone can create a memorial page on the Namenennummers.nl website in the coming period in order to personally commemorate victims. The process involves making a nameplate and writing a story. The site gives step-by-step instructions on how to do this. Your nameplate will play a role in the memorial ceremony. Wooden boards for the nameplates can be collected from the beginning of April 2023 from shoemaker Charles at Ruyschstraat 14, Amsterdam (on the corner of Swammerdamstraat). The name plates that were made last year will be laid down again. This year you can choose to commemorate a different victim.
