The National Sports Commemoration will take place on 4th May at the Olympic Stadium. This year, chess takes centre stage. For many people in captivity, chess was a way to survive.

During the sports commemoration, we will tell the life stories of wartime chess players. This commemoration will take place at the statue of Prometheus – the war memorial at the Olympic Stadium, in memory of Dutch sports people who perished.

Starting at 11:00 there will be a private speaker session, for invitees only. At 12:30, five coloured wreaths will be laid at the statue of Prometheus – the war memorial on the square in front of the Olympic Stadium. Together, these wreaths form the Olympic rings.
