Dansen om de Vrijheid te vieren kan weer volop tijdens het uitbundige Bevrijdingsdans Festival. De hele dag zijn er de meest uiteenlopende en inspirerende dansoptredens te zien, afgewisseld met de leukste dansworkshops, wagen onbekenden samen een dansje en wordt er weer volop gedanst rondom de Bevrijdingsboom. En de Vrijheidsmaaltijd is er deze keer met de Vrijheidsoep van Nadia Zerouali.
‘We gaan weer dansen’ is dit jaar de slogan van het Bevrijdingsdans Festival, en daar kun je niet omheen. Van middag tot avond treden enthousiaste amateur en professionele dansers op die jou letterlijk en figuurlijk in beweging brengen.
Na de opening van het festival door actrice Judith Kotigaro, neemt hoofdredacteur Joost Groeneboer van Dans Magazine je even terug naar 1945 waar Hollandse meisjes met de Canadezen de Jitterbug dansten. Daarna dansen de dansers van Swing Philosophy de Lindyhop, de voorloper van de Jutterbug én kun je het zelf leren.
Speciale gasten zijn de Oekraïense dansers Stanislav Olshanskyi en Alexis Tutunnique die op dit moment met prima ballerina Igone de Jongh optreden in het theater maar daarnaast proberen familieleden uit de oorlog te loodsen.
Krijg volop energie van het dansoptreden van Danscollectief Man || Co en verbaas je daarna over de explosieve dans uit de Hiphop battlescene van The Funky Presidentz met o.a. Eszteca Noya.
In de choreografie ‘De Omhelzing’ laten Nicky van Cleef en Pedro Ricardo Henry zien dat vrijheid niet zo vanzelfsprekend is. Dat we in dialoog moeten blijven met elkaar om tot bezinning te komen, letterlijk in liefdevolle omhelzing.
Opwinding én een hoop plezier gegarandeerd met Coro del Campo die begeleid op Spaanse gitaar zingen en de Sevillanas dansen met elkaar en met jou.
Vanaf het moment dat de witte vlag door Stadsgezelschap ICK Dans Amsterdam wordt gehesen word je meegenomen in een bijzondere choreografie uit de voorstelling ‘We Want it All’ waarin de dansers ‘spreken met hun lichaam’. Junadry Leocaria danst haar solo ‘Sugar Coated’, een ode aan haar tot slaaf gemaakte voorouders.
De Cubaanse Henry Labrada Rodrigues danst samen met zijn danspartner Stacy Petite zijn choreografie ‘Casa Duo’ waarin de Cubaanse samenleving wordt uitgebeeld als een verlaten huis zonder glans waar alle ambities van mensen verloren zijn gegaan.
Ben je benieuwd wat Bollywood dansen nou eigenlijk is? Vyjayanthi Iyer uit India laat jou de positieve energie ervaren die uitgaat van deze dans. Na het ritmische optreden met haar leerlingen van dansschool Navras Bollywood Dance kan je het zelf uitproberen tijdens de dansworkshop, maar let op… om 5 voor 5 staan we letterlijk even stil bij onze Vrijheid en dat deze helaas niet zo vanzelfsprekend is.
Vanaf 17.00 uur komen we met z’n allen in de Latin sferen!
Met een swingend Bachata dansoptreden door Baila Bel Air en een Bachata dansworkshop door Swing Latino om de de heupen lekker los te maken.
De leerlingen van dansschool La Esquina Cubana dansen een Cubaanse salsa waarna de Cubaanse Ernesto Betancourt jou als geen ander deze temperamentvolle dans zal leren dansen.
Daarna staan de DJ Rafi en Kasanoba klaar om met jullie de laatste uurtjes van het festival uit te luiden met lekkerste Salsa en Bachata musica! Niemand hoeft naast de kant te blijven staan want na alle dansworkshops weten jullie vast mee te dansen zodat we Bevrijdingsdag 2022 met elkaar dansend en feestelijk afsluiten op het Museumplein.
En voor iedereen die van al het dansen trek heeft gekregen, staan de foodtrucks er weer met hun culinaire hoogstandjes en kan je voor een verfrissend drankje terecht bij de festivalbar.
Dancing to celebrate Freedom is once again in full swing during the exuberant Liberation Dance Festival. All day long, the most diverse and inspiring dance performances can be seen, interspersed with the best dance workshops, and there will be plenty of dancing around the Liberation Tree. A Freedom Meal will be there this time with Nadia Zerouali’s Freedom Soup.
‘We’re going to dance again’ is the slogan of this year’s Liberation Dance Festival, and there’s no getting around that. From afternoon to evening, enthusiastic amateur and professional dancers will perform to get you moving, literally and figuratively.

In the choreography ‘The Embrace’ Nicky van Cleef and Pedro Ricardo Henry show that freedom is not so obvious. That we must remain in dialogue with each other in order to come to our senses, literally in a loving embrace.

From the moment the white flag is hoisted by ICK Dans Amsterdam you will be taken on a special choreography from the performance ‘We Want it All’ in which the dancers ‘speak with their bodies’. Junadry Leocaria dances her solo ‘Sugar Coated’, an ode to her enslaved ancestors.
The Cuban Henry Labrada Rodrigues, together with his dance partner Stacy Petite, dances his choreography ‘Casa Duo’ in which the Cuban society is portrayed as an abandoned house without shine where all people’s ambitions are lost.

After the rhythmic performance with her students of dance school Navras Bollywood Dance, you can try it yourself during the dance workshop, but beware…. At 5 to 5 we will literally pause to reflect on our Freedom and that unfortunately we cannot take it for granted.
From 17.00 we all get into the Latin spheres!
With a swinging Bachata dance performance by Baila Bel Air and a Bachata dance workshop by Swing Latino to loosen up the hips.
The students of dance school La Esquina Cubana will dance a Cuban salsa after which the Cuban Ernesto Betancourt will teach you this spirited dance like no other.
After that, DJ Rafi and Kasanoba are ready to celebrate the last hours of the festival with the best Salsa and Bachata music! Nobody has to stand on the sidelines because after all the dance workshops you will know how to dance so that we can all end Liberation Day 2022 dancing and celebrating together on the Museumplein.
And for those of you who are hungry after all that dancing, the food trucks will be back with their culinary delights and you can get a refreshing drink at the festival bar.
