Anton de Kom (Paramaribo, 1898 – Neuengamme 1945) was een Surinaamse antikoloniale schrijver en nationalist. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog was hij verzetsstrijder in Nederland. Bij het monument ter nagedachtenis van Anton de Kom dat in 2006 werd onthuld, vindt sinds enkele jaren een herdenking plaats op 4 mei. Op 5 mei is het nu tijd voor een Bevrijdingsfestival, aan de andere kant van het Anton de Komplein – zijde Flierbosdreef. Een klein festival als inclusieve viering waar verzetsheld Anton de Kom en andere strijders uit Oost en West worden geëerd. Met optredens van lokaal en nationaal talent, de markt is open en er is eten uit alle windrichtingen.
Anton de Kom (Paramaribo, 1898 – Neuengamme 1945) was an anticolonial writer an nationalist from Suriname. During the Second World War he was a resistance fighter in The Netherlands. Join us for a small commemoration on the 4th of May near the statue in his honour. Or come celebrate him on May 5th when it is time for a small liberation festival on the Anton de Kom Square. A festival where Anton the Kom and other members of the resistance from the East and the West will be honoured. Local talents will take the spotlight, the market will be open and the best food from all corners of the world is served. With intimate performances by among others Yung Dada, Charine Eyny and Yung Nnelg.
