Met haar werk becommentarieert danseres Poernima Gobardhan het gebruik van de publieke ruimte. Dat verliest steeds meer van zijn potentie als podium voor kunst, ontmoetingen en debat en wordt steeds meer een ruimte waarin regels, vergunningen en beleid dicteren hoe wij ons bewegen. Tegelijkertijd deconstrueert zij de normatieve relatie tussen de publieke ruimte en het publiek.
Dit doet zij door – samen met het publiek – collectieve en ruimtelijke ervaringen te creëren. Zo bevrijdt ze dans van het institutionele kader en geeft ze het terug aan de mensen op straat. Toegankelijk voor iedereen en zonder regels maakt ze ter plekke met een tijdelijke en unieke werkelijkheid.
Op Bevrijdingsdag nodigt het Bijlmer Parktheater je uit om in beweging te komen en je door Gobardhan te laten meevoeren. Startpunt is het Centraal Station, metrolijn 54, om 17:29 uur. Mis het niet!
De performance Red Lined is gebaseerd op het klassieke Bharata Natyam dansstuk Purapattu Mallari, wat werd gedanst tijdens processies. In Red Lined vind je de technische structuur van de Mallari terug, maar daarnaast laat Gobardhan zich vooral inspireren door de locatie en het publiek. Ze wordt muzikaal begeleid door Djuwa Mroivili, die de Kora bespeelt. Een perfecte match: Mroivili (van origine pianiste) zoekt in haar muziekpraktijk naar manieren om systemen die een exclusieve klassieke muziektraditie in stand houden te ontmantelen.
Red Lined gaat over “reclaiming the public space”, en is een performance voor iedereen.
With her work, dancer Purnima Gobardhan comments on the use of public space. This is increasingly losing its potential as a stage for art, encounters and debate and is becoming a space in which rules, permits and policies dictate how we move around. At the same time she deconstructs the normative relationship between public space and the public.
She does this by creating – together with the public – collective and spatial experiences. In this way she frees dance from its institutional framework and gives it back to the people on the street. Accessible to everyone and without rules, she creates on the spot with a temporary and unique reality.
On Liberation Day, the Bijlmer Park Theatre invites you to get moving and be carried away by Gobardhan. Starting point is Central Station, metro line 54, at 17:29 sharp.
The performance Red Lined is based on the classic Bharata Natyam dance piece Purapattu Mallari, which was danced during processions. In Red Lined you can find the technical structure of the Mallari, but in addition Gobardhan is mainly inspired by the location and the audience. She is accompanied musically by Djuwa Mroivili, who plays the kora. A perfect match: in her musical practice Mroivili (originally a pianist) searches for ways to dismantle systems that maintain an exclusive classical music tradition.
