The Fo Guang Shan He Hua Temple on Amsterdam’s Zeedijk is located in Chinatown. It is the largest temple in Europe, built in the style of a traditional Chinese palace. The appearance is Chinese, but that does not alter the fact that Buddhism and its practice are universal and transcend all external characteristics and cultures. The temple is part of the IBPS (International Buddhist Progress Society) and BLIA (Buddha’s Light International Association).
The Freedom Meal is a community-wide event that aims to bring people together to share a meal and promote unity and understanding among diverse groups. This reflects the principals of Humanistic Buddhism, propagated by theFo Guang Shan International Buddhist Order, in the objectives laid down by Master Hsing Yun: give faith to others, give joy to others, give hope to others, give comfort to others. Fo Guang Shan’s goal is to make Buddhism matter in this world, in our lives and in the hearts of each of us. Our goal is to raise people’s attention for freedom and independence from a Buddhist perspective.
We will serve spring rolls, fried sesame balls, stir fried noodle and tea outside the entrance to our temple.
Visitors can visit He Hua Temple, learn about Buddhism, feel more joy and be more positive. Many of our members will be joining with family and friends at our temple.
