Op 21 april 1940 speelde het Nederlands elftal in het Olympisch Stadion zijn laatste thuiswedstrijd vóór de Duitse inval. Han Hollander verzorgde namens de AVRO-radio het rechtstreekse verslag. Op 12 mei 1946 speelde het Nederlandse elftal in het Olympisch Stadion zijn eerste thuiswedstrijd ná de Bevrijding. Han Hollander was er niet meer bij, want samen met zijn vrouw Leentje Hollander-Smeer wed hij op 9 juli 1943 vermoord in Sobibor.
Op 4 mei vindt sinds 2005 bij het Olympisch Stadion de Nationale Sportherdenking plaats. Onze aandacht gaat dit jaar uit naar de oorlogsslachtoffers in het Nederlandse voetbal, waarvan er 2212 staan vermeld op het KNVB-monument in Zeist. Bij de herdenking spreken we met elkaar over de levens van deze voetballers.
Programma:
10.30 uur: Ontvangst (MOVE-gebouw, Olympisch Stadion 28, Amsterdam)
10.45 uur: Aanvang inhoudelijk programma, met bijzondere filmbeelden en foto’s en verhalen over de levens van de voetballers in WOII
12.00 uur: Einde programma en gelegenheid voor een korte lunch.
12.30 uur: Herdenking bij beeld van Prometheus, geplaatst ter nagedachtenis aan de gevallen sporters (plein voor het Olympisch Stadion).
13.15 uur: ‘Het oorlogselftal’ een muziekvoorstelling van Het Nachtlicht Ensemble, gebaseerd op levensverhalen van voetballers (MOVE-gebouw)

On April 21, 1940, the Dutch national team played its last home game before the German invasion in the Olympic Stadium. Han Hollander did the live report on behalf of AVRO Radio. On May 12, 1946, the Dutch national team played its first home game after the Liberation in the Olympic Stadium. Han Hollander was no longer there, because together with his wife Leentje Hollander-Smeer he was murdered in Sobibor on 9 July 1943.
This year it is exactly 75 years ago that the statue of Prometheus was placed at the Olympic Stadium in memory of the athletes who died in WWII. Since 2005, the National Sports Commemoration has taken place annually.
